Storyboard Text

  • Warmth/Excitement
  • Mystery/Tension
  • Horrific/Ominous
  • This comic shows the very first scene of the story. The children are laughing and playing and playing with a pile of stones.
  • Symbols
  • This comic shows Mr. Summers walking with the black box that will eventually end someones life. There is lots of tension between all the villagers knowing this.
  • Imagery
  • This scene shows Mrs. Hutchinson upon her death, with her own family watching. She is filled with fear, as well as her family. Everyone is so sad and they cant imagine a future without her.
  • Metaphor
  • The black box is suggestive as a coffin. It contains slips which all the villagers names are on, and whoever gets their name called, will be stoned.
  • Imgery is all over the story, but the most disturbing part is when Shirley Jackson writes "Mrs. Delacroix chose a rock so big, she had to pick it up with two hands."
  • A metaphor for the storty is... we as humans are very selfish and conceded. When we see someone in need of help, we don't do anything because we don't want to get ourselves hurt or in trouble.
