Storyboard Text

  • HUSH
  • Symbol: The children of this town had collected rocks that would later be used to stone the person that won the lottery.
  • Imagery: The clear skies, the grass, and the flowers blooming all represent the fact that winter is over and rebirth has begun. This is juxtaposition because this contrasts everything that the characters are doing.
  • Figures of Speech: "A sudden hush fell on the crowd" pg 29. This is personification because the hush fell on them as if it had human -like qualities and had the ability to fall.
  • Theme: One of the themes of the story is that just because something is tradition doesn't mean it is right. What they were doing in that town was considered tradition but since it involved someone dying it wasn't correct.
  • Tone: The tone of this short story is very monotone and neutral almost sounding matter-of-fact. This goes along with the background because there is nothing really going on in the scenery.
  • Symbol: In the story one of the characters within the story described as Mr. Graves, has a feeling of uneasiness around him symbolizing graves/death.
  • Here lies Mr. Graves
