  • The four main causes of the war was British alliances with the Natives, the Chesapeake Leopard Affair, Impressment, and "the War Hawks," encouraging war to spread the nation's power.
  • The effects of the War of 1812 was heroism of Jackson, the Native Americans weakened, growth of U.S. Manufacturing , earning respect, and gaining confidence.
  • After Britain defeated Napoleon in April of 1814, Britian had more ships and supplies to prosecute war with the U.S., so they burned the capital down to the ground.
  • James Madison took office in 1804-1817. During his time, the French and the British were invading American ships and using their men for soldiers. Madison took action and made the Embargo act of 1807 and didn't trade with other states. In 1810, Napoleon stopped seizing ships and the Americans went to war with Britain and the Americans won.
  • The Battle of New Orleans happened in December of 1814 to January of 1815, and was the last battle. The commander (General Andrew Jackson) and his troops defeated Britain. Unfortunately, The Treaty of Ghent had been signed on December of 1814, but no one knew until February.
  • The Bombardment of Fort McHenry happened on September 12, 1814. We (Britain's army) attacked Fort McHenry, but the fort successfully defended the harbor.
