Storyboard Text

  • "I think we need to go to war against Britain!"
  • "Why?"
  • James Madison (president)
  • "The British keep kidnapping our sailors that are taking goods to France. This is called impressment."
  • "Also, the Native Americans are resisting. They are teaming up to get their land back."
  • The battles in the Great lakes/Canada resuled in an American victory and there was no longer a threat by Britain in the Northwest.
  • After Britain defeated France, they set up a blockade in America. They also burned down the white house. This is when Francis Scott Key wrote the "Star Spangled Banner."
  • The British attacked New Orleans to cut off American use of the Mississippi. Andrew Jackson became a war hero at this battle.
  • The effects of this war are increased patriotism, weakened Native American resistance to westward settlement, and the beginning of the industrial revolution due to the British blockade that kept goods from coming in or out of the U.S. for 2 years.
