  • James Madison, our 4th president, was a very smart person. But he felt like our nation was threatened and we needed war to right the wrongs Britain had done to us. Immediately after being put into office he demanded that congress declare war on Britain.
  • Jame Madison as President
  • Congress must declare war on Britain, they have impressed our navy and assisted Native Americans in attacking us.
  • The Native American leader, Tecumseh had, had a dream of a unified native confederation. He gathered all the tribes and told them of his dream, they decided to make an alliance and band together fighting for the British who promised them their land back if they won. Over Seas the British were attacking American Ships and kidnapping the sailors, this action was called impressment.

  • Battles in the Great Lakes
  • Most of the battles in 1812 - 1814 were fought by Navy. Comodore Perry an Admiral took control of the navy in the Great Lakes. The first and last battle between the British and the Navy was a struggle Commodore's ship was sunk two hours into the battle and he boarded a row boat and fought on. He ended up winning the battle for the U.S and became a war Hero

  • Francis Scott Key & Fort Henry
  • At the battle of Fort McHenry, an author Francis Scott Key, wrote the star spangled banner. his inspiration came from the battle field surrounding him and he wrote about the rockets red glare and other things that happened in the battle for Fort McHenry

  • Andrew Jackson War Hero
  • Andrew Jackson an amazing military strategist was given orders to take back New Orleans. He proceeded to win the battle taking only 71 casualties and killing 2000 British soldiers.
  • Effect of the War
  • The war caused the Industrial Revolution, with the blockade of the north they couldn't import goods use. So they had to begin manufacturing things that they needed it jump started the American Economy and completely changed how we handled our economy
