  • Natives in the North West Territory and Non-Intercourse Act
  • The Americans are going to take your land. Fight them with these guns.
  • Phase 1- Great Lakes and Canada
  • I don't care if you have more ships. I am ready to die to protect America.
  • America is staying neutral in the war between France and England. America continues to trade with both countries. However, England Intercepts American ships going to France and kidnaps American sailors to work on British ships. France also doesn't respect America's neutrality, so Thomas Jefferson sets in place the Embargo Act. This act closed trade with England and France.
  • Phase 2- East Coast
  • The British are giving the natives weapons and telling them to fight the Americans. This makes it difficult for americans to settle in the territory. Jefferson quickly realized that the Embargo Act is ruining the US economy, so he passes the Non-Intercouse Act. This act reopens trade with France and England as long as the two countries respect America's neutrality in their war.
  • Phase 3- New Orleans
  • I finally have revenged the British.
  • Due to prior events America declares war on England. This war becomes known as The war of 1812 and lasts until 1814. The first part of the war is fount near and on the Great Lakes. Oliver Hazard Perry was the Commander of the Navy and fought a British fleet in Lake Eerie. General William Henry Harrison followed the British into Canada and defeated them at the Battle of Thames.
  • Effects of the War of 1812
  • After the British won the war agains France they focused their army and navy on the US. The British blockaded the east coast and invaded towns and Forts. The British even burned down the White House. Among the most historic battles was the Bombardment of Fort McHenry. Here Francis Scott Key watch the Americans stop a British invasion, and wrote the "Star Spangled Banner."
  • By the third part of the war the Treaty of Ghent had been signed. The British attacked the Mississippi River to prevent American use of it. President James Madison sent Andrew Jackson to defeat the British in New Orleans. Jackson's command won a big victory for America. The death toll was 71 Americans and about 2000 British dead or injured.
  • I surrender!
  • Although the Treaty of Ghent was pointless aside from the fact that it guaranteed peace, the war had some positive effects for America. During the war foreign trade was low, so Americans had to process their own products. This forced the building of factories, and started the Industrial Revolution. The War of 1812 increased Patriotism, and made people proud to be and American.
