  • James Madison was the first president to ask congress for the US to go to war with Great Britain.
  • Phase 2: Francis Scott Key and the Bombardment of Fort McHenry
  • We would be out of the trading business because there would be a blockade of Great Britain's navy ships.
  • Phase 3: Andrew Jackson as a War Hero and the Battle of New Orleans
  • The British Navy made a blockade of ships to stop trading with France. But Oliver Hazard Perry beat them all in a row boat.
  • Effects of the War
  • Francis Scott Key was at the Battle of Fort McHenry. He also wrote our national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner."
  • The British have attacked New Orleans in 1815. James Madison sent Andrew Jackson to command the American forces.
  • This led us to the industrial revolution.
