Skeeter lands a job with a newspaper editor and gains the attention of a publisher, who gives her a deadline to finish the book.
Yule the maid hired after Minney was fired, gets arrested for "stealing" a ring from Hilly. She went to a pwn shop to try and get the rest of the money she needs to send her twin boys to collage. Meanwhile Aibileen is being held back so she cant get to Yule. Yule is then beaten in front of all her friends from the bus.

Skeeter hears about the encounter with Yule and rushes over to Aibileens house. When she walks in the door all of the maids and Aibileens friends are there and they all want to help. Each of them shares their stories.After a lot of worry Skeeter can finally finish writing the book.

The publishers love the book and decide to publish 1,000 copies and sell them in town. The book is set in a fake town called Niceville, with fake characters. Hilly finally figures out that it is based off of Jackson and the characters are her and all her friends.
Hilly decides to confront Skeeter about the book. Hilly doesn't want to hear from Skeeter and demands to talk to Skeeters mother. Skeeters mother comes out and yells at Hilly and tells her to get off her property.
Aibileen goes back to Mrs. Leefolts house where Hilly and Mrs. Leefolt are waiting. They explain that when Aibileen borrowed silver, not all of it was returned. She tries to explain that she did not steal the silver and offers to look for it. Hilly tells her she is fired and then Mrs. Leefolt tells her to leave. Aibileen says goodbye to Mae Mobley and decides she will move on to better things.
