  • Rising Action (#2)
  • Rainsford reaches over the edge of the boat to retrieve his pipe that he had dropped, but ended up falling in the water instead.
  • Rising action (#3)
  • The boat continued on leaving Rainsford with no way of getting back on, so he resorted to swimming to "Ship-trap" island.
  • Climax
  • Rainsford sees General Zarroff's loft and tells him that he needs food. Zarroff offers Rainsford to stay and he later figures out Zarroff's new hunting prey. Rains ford makes it clear that he disagrees with it and becomes zaroff's next victim.
  • Resolution
  • Rainsford tried making a fox trail to try and trick Zarroff, as Zarroff's last victim made his where abouts very evident with the footprints in the straight line but he was quickly found. Rains ford resorted to setting up a series of traps such as the the Burmese Tiger pit, A Malay man catcher, and attaching a knife to a sapling. These traps were in fact effective on everyone except for Zarroff.
  • Rains ford jumps off of the side of the island into the sea and makes his way back to Zarroff's loft where he hides in the curtain by his bed, flipping the game around on Zarroff.
  • After Rainsford reveals himself to Zarroff, he ends of killing Zarroff (even though he said he wouldn't ever murder) and sleeps in his bed.
