What do you know about Planning or not planning?
Did you mean to? I mean did you plan it or was it an accident
She's Twenty Years Old, Lena
How far along are you?
Mama turns around to see that Ruth has slipped quietly to the floor. The next morning Ruth goes to the doctors.
I got something I gotta talk to you about, Walter.
I'll come too.
Where are you going?
I'm going out!
Walter Lee sit down.
That's too bad.
Just out of this house somewhere--
I don't want you to come!
Next Saturday morning, the house cleaning is in progress. Ruth comes in forlornly and pulls off her coat with dejection. Her sister in law and mother in law look at her. She is Pregnant.
Mama- i don't need no nagging at me today.
Matter with me? Ain't nothing the matter with me!
Yes there is. Something eating you up like a crazy man.
Walter, what is the matter with you?
The conversation between the three women continue
No--No Ruth wouldn't do that, you don't know Ruth mama if you think she would do that.
Ruth-(He can say nothing but stare at her)
Yes I would too, Walter I gave her a five-dollar down payment.
Later on that evening Walter comes on set with frustration on his face. Ruth tries to tell him the news. But it turns out in a big argument so Ruth leaves and goes to the bed room.
Eventually Walter Sits down on the couch. Mama sits down and tries to clam down Walter. During there conversation Walter jumps up but is soon told to sit back down.
As Walter slowly understands the news his mama just gave him he refuses to believe his wife Ruth will do something that drastic. Their conversation is cut off by Ruth admitting she would do what ever is necessary. Than the Act ends.
Son-do you know your wife is expecting another baby? that's what she wanted to talk to you about
I think Ruth is thinking 'bout getting rid of that child.
