  • Rain washes the fertilizers and animal waste into the watertable.
  • This caused an algae bloom, which is where an abundance of algae is produced due to extra nitrogen and phosphorous.
  • The algae bloom causes reduced light under the water which kills off the plants.
  • No more oxygen is produced in the water once all of the plants and algae have died.
