  • guys, come look at all of this!
  • Juan Ponce de Leon and his men discovers the coast of Florida. Since he arrived during the Easter season, known as Pascua Florida, Ponce decides to name his discovery, Florida! (As they sailed along the Coastline of Florida, Ponce realized that the currents were pulling his ships northward. They would be able to return the Spanish ships and this was later called the Gulf Stream.)

  • Pedro Menendez arrived at the Florida Coastline with 10 boats and a lot of men. He settled Saint Augustine and then he immediately the French settlement of Fort Caroline. Pedro took the fort and he had some of the Frenchmen hung from the tree's! After that, he pursued Ribault. Ribault's ships encountered a hurricane and got wrecked on the coast, which was near Matanzas Inlet. When he found the shipwrecked Frenchmen, he killed them on the beach!

  • Coquina was discovered on the Anastasia Island. Governor Pedro Menendez de Marquez ordered its official use because it was fireproof and it was readily available. Coquina is made up of quartz and mollusk and it is formed on the East Coast of Florida.

  • Sir Francis Drake attacked Saint Augustine. His forces destroyed the sixth wooden fort, San Juan de Pinillo, a predecessor of the Castllio de San Marcos.

  • The Castillio de San Marcos fort begins to be built by the Spanish! They used the Coquina that was discovered in 1580, that way the fort wont be able to be set on fire and the walls will be virtually impenetrable. The fort stayed up and remained in active duty until 1900 and never once fell to any enemy invader!
  • WHY WONT IT SET ON FIRE?!?!?
  • The treaty of Paris was officially signed, ending the Seven Years War in Europe and its counter part, the French and Indian War in he Americas. Spain got their control of Cuba, Louisiana, and the Philippines back but, gave up their power of Florida, to the British. The British gained control of Canada and Senegal from the French.
