" The monster tensed, gave a surprised grunt, then ---- snap!....... As the monster barreled past, I drove the horn strait into his side, right up under his furry rib cage" (page 55). This shows that Percy battled the Minotaur right before entering camp half-blood.
Chapter 8 Character vs. Nature
" I asked Grover where Mrs.Dodds was. He said, 'Who?'" (page 14). This shows that before Percy found out what Mrs.Dodds was, everyone remembered her, but after no one remembered who she was.
Chapter 2 Character vs. Self
Should i study?
I saw his attacks coming. I countered. I stepped forward and tried a thrust of my own........ I tried the disarming maneuver. My blade hit the base of Luke's and I twisted, putting my whole weight into a downward thrust. clang Luke's sword rattled against the stones. The tip of my blade was an inch from his undefended chest" (page 110-111). This shows that Percy unexpectedly knew how to do a very hard move, that would have took years to learn.
Chapter 6 Character vs. Character
"He pushed me into the creek and I landed with a splash....But then something happened. The water seemed to wake up my senses, as if I'd just had a bag of my mom's double-espresso jelly beans" (page 121). This shows that when Clarisse pushed Percy in the river it seemed to help him instead of hurt him.
" The evening before my final, I got so frustrated I threw the Cambridge Guide to Greek Mythology across my dorm room...... I remembered Mr.Brunner's serious expression, his thousand-year-old eyes. I will accept only the best from you, Percy Jackson" (page 18).This shows that Percy doesn't want to study, but also doesn't want to let Mr.Brunner down.
" Clarisse's grip on my hair loosened. Water shot out of the toilet, making an arc straight over my head, and the next thing I knew, I was sprawled on the bathroom tiles with Clarisse screaming behind me" (page 91). This shows that Percy made the water (on accident) come out of the toilet and hit Clarisse in the face.
