  • Today, we will be learning about the Ingraham vs. Wright case. You will find out who is the PLAINTIFF and who is the DEFENDANT. You will findout out what the Supreme court ruled and who won!
  • It all started when   James  Ingraham got punished physically by his principcal for being accused of being rowdy in the school auditorium. James had to seek serious medical attention.
  • I dislike what the  principal did. I think he is violating amendment  8.
  • Well   Mia,  you are agreeing with James and his mother!   James and his mother complained that this act by the principal violated the 8th amendment.
  • I agree
  • Now obviously this went to the Supreme Court since it was a big issue. James Ingraham and his mother were the plantiff, while the principal was the defendant. The Supreme Court ruled against James and said that physical control at school doesn’t profane the Constitution.
  • They ruled this way because   Amendment 8 was made to protect criminals from excessive punishments, not misbehaved students. However guys, the court DID say to the school officials to be cautious with corporal punishments.
  • Oh ok
  • In conclusion, the principal won because physical discipline at school doesn’t profane the constitution. The justice said the Eighth Amendment was created to protect criminals from punishments and paying fines that don’t match the crime, not misbehaved students.
  • wow.  I disagree with the ruling because  I don't think this amendment should just refer to crime cases but everything in general. Just for being accused for being rowdy, you can’t just be physically punished.
