This is what caused the tea act of 1773 and how the colonists reacted to it.
the colonist are smuggling tea, so instead we will sell tea directly to them. This would lower the price of tea and encourage colonists to stop smuggling the tea. Less smuggling would result in more tax money. 
The British had made us so mad that we decided disguise as Indians and sneaked onto three tea-filled ships in the harbor and dump over 340 chests into Boston Harbor 
The British Government needed money to support the Army so they created the Stamp Act of 1765. This act required colonist to pay for an official stamp, or seal when they bought paper items 
This tax that was applied in the colonies, it fell directly on us, the colonists. we had to pay for stamps in silver coin, a scarce item in the colonies and we lost a lot of money there.
