Storyboard Text

  • Louis Riel's actions weren't all he did for the Metis. He ended up being charged with treason and unfortunately has a very unfair trial.
  • His injust trial helped the Metis, as it highlighted the treatment they were getting from the government and gave them something to fight for.
  • One of the issues with his trial was that it was moved from Manitoba to Saskatchewan, which ensured that there was no Metis representation in the court.
  • How can you understand my people's struggles if there is no one here to tell you!
  • Also Riel's lawyers defended him by claiming insanity, although this went against Riel's wishes.
  • Riel cannot be held accountable for his actions as he was not of the right mind!
  • Even though Riel's life was at risk, he still wanted to help the Metis however he can.
  • He fought against the insanity defense because he knew that if he was proved insane, all his work would be written off and the Metis would not get the recognition and change they deserved.
  • A traitor?
  • Now that you understand Riel's life, you can form your own opinion about who Riel was.
  • A hero?
  • The End
