  • The Gettysburg Address
  • Fourscore and seven years ago...
  • Sherman's March to Sea 
  • The Confederacy wanted bring the war to the north and break the Union's spirits. However, the Union had more soldiers and resources and they won this battle. July 1-3, 1863
  • Appomattox Courthouse
  • The Gettysburg Address was a speech given by President Abraham Lincoln on November 19, 1863. The president gave this speech on the battlefield of the Battle of Gettysburg. In his speech he dedicated the field to the soldiers who fought on it.
  • Lincoln's Assasination
  • The Union army was winning the war. In order to ensure their victory, the Union destroyed Southern towns and cities. The Union destroyed Columbia, Savannah, and Atlanta. The march took place between  November 15, 1864 and December 21, 1864. Sherman's march was the beginning of total war.
  • Legacy of the War
  • The war was over, and the north had won. Both sides needed to make peace and put the war behind them. On April 9, 1865 the Confederacy finally surrendered. The war was ended at Appomattox Courthouse.
  • President Lincoln and his wife Mary were enjoying a performance at Ford's Theater on the night of April 14, 1865. Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln died the next morning. 
  • When the Civil War finally ended in the spring of 1865, 620,000 soldiers were dead. Many more soldiers were wounded or missing. After the war was over, the 13th amendment was added, ending slavery completely.
