In Padua, there were two daughters of a rich man Baptista, named Katherine and Bianca. Bianca, the younger one attracted many suitors such as Hortensio and Gremio. However, Katherine, sharp tongued and unkind, scares away men.
However, Baptista says that Bianca can only get married until Katherine gets married.
That is so unfair! No one will want to marry her!
Bianca, you may not marry until Katherine does.
To have a chance of marrying Bianca, Hortensio and Gremio agree to find Katherine a husband.
I have an old friend who's looking for a wife...
We need to find a husband for Katherine. Only then will we have a chance at winning Bianca. But who would do it?
Lucentio arrives in Padua and falls in love with Bianca at first sight.
Petruchio is an old friend of Hortensio and is looking for a wife with a large dowry so he will marry Katherine. The stories of Katherine's behaviour doen't put him off.
When he heard that Baptista wants tutors for his daughter, he disguises himself as a tutor called 'Cambio'. His servant Tranio pretends to be Lucentio.
I heard that Baptista wants tutors for his daughters. I'll disguise myself as a tutor to win Bianca's heart while you pretend to be me.
Petruchio agrees to marry Katherine for twenty thousand crowns and half of Baptista's lands in the future.
I will marry your daughter for 20,000 crowns and half of your lands in the years to come.
