Jim and Della are two poor siblings, brother and sister, and its just around Christmas time. Jim really wants to get Della something but he doesn't really have much, he is a mailman for his town and has just enough money to survive
Jim wanted to do something for Della, seeing that to him, she was the most important person in the world to her. So he wanted to get her a Christmas present. And to do that, he would need some cash. He looked everywhere for something he could sell, and found nothing. He remembered his watch, his prized possession, but he had to sell it if he wanted to get a present for Della
Jim new he was doing the right thing, but it felt off. Selling his prized possession, but nonetheless, Jim went through and sold his watch for $20 at the pawn shop
Jim decides to get Della some combs for her very long hair and Jim thought that she would enjoy them very much and they would all have a very merry christmas
