  • The Constituton
  • Ben Franklin
  • Constitutional Convention
  • I'm Thomas Jefferson and I'm responsible for writing the majority of the Declaration of Independence. This document explains all the reasons why we were forced to gain our own government against Britain. This began the creation a new government under Constitution.
  • Federalists vs. Anti-Federalists
  • I’m Ben Franklin. Although we had alliances between colonies that kept us safe, we had a weak central government. Because of this, we were having problems with money and compromises, so a new government was needed.
  • Federalists
  • The Constitutional Convention was called to talk about the new government. Specific men that were there were called delegates. The delegates fought on how to write a set of rules for what would later be named the Constitution. There were many decisions to make, so lots of time had to be put into this.
  • The Plan
  • In the making, there were two sides to the Constitution; the anti-federalists and the Federalists. I, Thomas Jefferson, was believed to be an Anti-Federalist. I often tried to convince people that the Confederation was the way to go.
  • I, Alexander Hamilton, am a Federalists. I tried to convince people to support and ratify the Constitution. I supported a national government and opposed the weak Confederation.
  • The Virginia Plan was then created to propose that the government should have representatives for the states based on population. This helped large states get more representation and more power in government. The New Jersey Plan was also created. This plan favored small states and based representation of government only on states. Every state got the same number of representatives in the New Jersey Plan so that size did not affect power.
