Lizabeth finds out that her mother, who was small and soft, is the strength of the family. While her father, who was the rock the family was built on, was crying. After this occurred she felt and great fear and bewilderment.
Lizabeth unleashes her fear and anger on Miss. Lottie's marigolds. She realizes that one person can not have both compassion and innocence inside of them.
