  • Rlihlahla Mandela, the son of a Thembu tribal chief, was born in Mvezo, in South Africa's eastern cape on the 18th of July 1918.
  • His name will be...  Rolihlahla Mandela.
  • Congratulations, IT'S A BOY!!!
  • He was the first of his family to go to school. It was there he received the name Nelson as it was customary for school children to be given English names.
  • Yay, I love school!
  • In 1941, he fled to Johannesburg to avoid an arranged marriage. 
  • No stop! Why are you doing this to me?!
  • Runnnnn!!!!!
  • Nelson Mandela qualified as a lawyer and in 1952 set up the countries first black law firm with Oliver Tambo.
  • I'm Oliver Tambo
  • He was arrested in 1956 and charged with treason. The trial lasted 4 and a half years with him being acquitted. He was sentenced to life in prison but got let out after 27 years when he became an international symbol of resistance to Apartheid.

  • In April 1994, South Africa held its first multi-racial elections in history. Millions of South Africans cast ballots to elect Nelson Mandela as South Africa’s first black president. Under Mandela’s presidency, priorities were changed to fix the effects of apartheid.
