Mary Maloney greets her husband, Patrick, and something seems wrong. He is drinking a lot and is very quiet. And she does not believe it when Patrick says they are through.

Trying to not believe what just happened, Mary Maloney goes through her routine of making dinner to help her comprehend what she just heard.
Please it I can't eat it all by myself.
After getting the frozen lamb leg, she walks up stairs from the meat cellar only to see Patrick. And through a sudden moment of rage, she lifts the frozen leg up over her head and brings it down upon the back of Patrick's head, and there on the floor Patrick dies.
Upon killing her killing her husband, Mary Maloney tries to act as though it never happened ,so she goes through her daily routines by first going to the store, which also creates an alibi for the police. Then she comes home and acts shocked by what happened to her husband even she murdered him and then the police come.
In the end, Mary Maloney convinces the officers to have Patrick's dinner, so she can feel "useful". But, really they are just eating the murder weapon for her.
