The path to the presidency is a very interesting one... let's learn about it!
The first step is the nomination. This is where we come in! We vote for the person we want to represent our party! This is like when we all had various people be nominated: Bernie, Hillary, Donald, Ted.
The second step is the primiries. This is where we actually vote for these different nominees. We go to the voting booths and in the past election, we could either vote for Bernie or Hillary to represent the Democratic party.
The third step is the national convention. This is where our official candidates for the presidency are announced to the public. For the 2012 election, it was Obama and Romney who were the candidates for the presidency.
The fourth step is campaigning. These official candidates will start campaigning to win our votes so they can win! This is like when Trump started his "Make America Great Again!" campaign!
The fifth step is the day we all vote to determine who will become president! This is usually the first Tuesday of November. In 2008, we all decided to either vote for Mccain or Obama.
The sixth step is the electoral college. This is where the electors that we have appointed vote for the candidate who gains the most votes in our states! For example, Hillary won Illinois, so she got out electors!
The last step is the inauguration! This is when the candidate who wins the electoral college gets sworn in! Trump got sworn in January 2017!
