- House of Usher
- Its proprietor, Roderick Usher, had been one of my booncompanions in boyhood.
- A sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit.
- The writerspoke of acute bodily illness, of a mental disorder which oppressed him.
- Things were not looking good, in his eyes you could slightly see a little life, his skin was pale and everything else was dying.
- I could almost see that he was hiding a secret
- At night, when I went to sleep, my friend went to my room, just when he opened the door, a dazzling lightning struck the house.
- Can you hear it?
- Relax, I'll read you a book. It's just the noises of nature my friend
- After a while in which I read to him, the door slammed open and a dying shadow entered and lunged at Usher. I ran out and swore not to go back there.
