The theory that most closely matches the reason for my deviance is the control theory. My attachment to the shelf was not strong enough to keep me from leaning on it and breaking it, and my belief, which states that lying is wrong, was not strong enough to stop me from lying about it. In other words, there was not enough control to keep my honest and accountable. Then again, I was six.
