  • here our story begins, with the 14th ammendment.
  • They now had most of the rights of a regular citizen.
  • July 9, 1869, the 14th amendment was passed. This amendment grants all african american males citizenship.
  • Abraham Lincoln passes this amendment after the Civil War. He started reconsturuction but died before he could see it through.
  • This made all former slaves now citizens, and they now had equal protection under the law.
  • Many Southerners were very angry about the change. They started revolting, but federal troops kept them in order.
  • That is why the 14th amendment is the most important amendment, because without it, all African Americans would not have the sam rights as all american citizens.
