Alessadro Volta was born in Como, a city of Milan, in a family of noble origin. On February 18, 1745.
At 18 years of age he was already doing his first electric experiments. His first scientific work was entitled "On the attractive force of electric fire" dated in 1769.
A year before he had been appointed professor of physics at the Royal College of Como. In 1778 he identified and isolated methane gas, and the following year he took up the chair of physics at the University of Pavia.
Towards 1796-97, with the use of his electroscopes and his condenser, he experimentally verified the existence of an electrical imbalance, which he called "tension", between two metals. In the course of the investigations he was able to verify a series of properties that allowed him to build the first electric battery.
And that's how I was able to produce electricity constantly
In 1801, he made a demonstration of his discovery before Napoleon. The emperor recognized his contribution to science by giving him the title of count, naming him senator of Lombardy and awarding him the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit.
Alessandro Volta died on March 5, 1827 at his ranch in Camnago. He is one of the most important scientists in history. In his honor, the Royal Society named as volt, the unit of measurement of the difference of electrical potential.
