Storyboard Text

  • Northern Free States: Feelings about state additions?
  • What are your feelings about northern state additions?
  • I agree with the supreme court in that, the constitution is the final law.
  • Northern Free States: Feelings about the 36°30′ line?
  • What do you think about the 36, 30 parallel line agreement?
  • I think that its a good deal for the North because we get most of the land that America occupies today.
  • Northern Free States: Who was involved?
  • Who are the leading anti slavery congressmen in the North?
  • They're Stephen Douglas and William Lloyd Garrison.
  • They thought that the supreme court’s ruling that the constitution was the law of the land.
  • Southern Slave States: Feelings about state additions?
  • At first  I thought the south was being robbed but after the war I've come to realize its fair.
  • What do you think about adding more slave states in the south.
  • They liked the 36-30 line because there was more land above the line, so that would mean that they had more land to make more states. Also, slavery was prohibited above the line, but it was allowed below the line, so there was a chance that free states could be in the south.
  • Southern Slave States: Feelings about the 36°30′ line?
  • What do you think about adding slave states below the 36-30 line?
  • At first I thought it was unfair for us southerners but after the war we have plenty of territory south, so I believe now its even.
  • Stephen Douglas and William Lloyd Garrison were the leading congressmen for the North.
  • Southern Slave States: Who was involved?
  • Who is in charge of the southern argument?
  • They are Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun
  • The southerners liked states rights because that meant that they could expand slavery as long as it was below the 36-30 line.
  • They didn’t like it at the beginning when all land below the line was owned by foreign countries. But later, when America got newly conquered land they were satisfied with it.
  • Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun were the leading congressmen for the south.
