Storyboard Text

  • This is what is known as “ocean acidification”
  • Lots of Co2 is being released because of things like coal  burning factories.
  • Oceans require a particular level of pH to maintain the natural biochemistry needed to allow a healthy ecosystem. When oceans absorb high levels of carbon dioxide, the acidity levels raise and the natural order of the ocean becomes compromised.
  • The oceans have become 30 percent more acidic because of the carbon pollution we're pumping into the atmosphere.
  •  This is causing our coral reefs to collapse, oyster beds to disappear and tiny creatures that are important food sources to get smaller and weaker.
  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
  • The  industrial revolution is a HUGE cause of ocean acidification.  Almost everything we do,  from using electricity to  going to work affects the  quality of air and the ocean.
  • These actions interrupt  the food chain, because certain underwater animals die off. So , animals depending on them die off too, and so on.
  • We can reduce ocean  acidification by  being mindful of our pollution rates , walk , bike , or use public transportation, and other enviromental friendly things.
