Yes I gave the servents the day off because it is Christmas Eve.
This fob would look great with his watch
Those combs would be beautiful in her hair!
To afford the fob I must sell my hair...
What are you going to get Della for Christmas Jim?
Della and Jim had only two prized possesions due to their state of poverty, they were Della's hair and Jim's watch. Although they weren't wealthy, they were rich in love.
I don't quite know
I wonder what I could trade to get her those combs?
On Christmas Eve Jim and Della were walking down the street wondering what to buy each other. When two specific objects caught their eye.
I sold my watch to buy you the combs!
I sold my hair to buy you the golden chain!
Della only had $1.87 cents to spend on a gift for Jim and she relized that she could sell her hair for the money. She went to a Hair Good's store and got her hair cut out of love of Jim.
While at work that day Jim failed to recieve his Christmas bonus and had to find another way to pay for Della's gift. Although he couldn't buy her gems or jewels he had a particular gift in mind for her.
When they both returned home that night they had a good laugh. Jim had bought her combs and she had cut her hair while Della had bought him a golden chain for his watch that of which he had to sell to afford her combs.
In the end they realized that their love they shared was enough and that no comb, chain or diamond ring could make them any happier than they already were just having one another.
