  • Let you re-peat them, if you will.
  • I cannot think the Devil may own a woman’s soul, Mr. Hale,when she keeps an upright way, as I have.
  • You surely do not fly against the Gospel
  • I’m sure he mistakes these people
  • They take my wife. And his Rebecca!
  • Giles! What’s the matter?
  • Rev. Hale has come to warn the Proctors of Elizabeth possibly being accused of witch craft. In order to assess them, Rev. Hale asks John Proctor if he can recite the ten commandments. John Proctor has a difficult time remembering them.
  • I have a warrant for your wife.
  • You said she were not charged!
  • It’s a pity, Ezekiel, that an honest tailor might have gone to Heaven must burn in Hell.
  • When asked if she believes in witches, Elizabeth Proctor tells Rev. Hale that she does not. This makes Hale suspicious, and John Proctor nervous, because the Bible says there is such thing as witches.
  • I spy a poppet, Goody Proctor.
  • Why, this is Mary’s.
  • What signifies a poppet?
  • Giles Corey and Francis Nurse enter the house, and tell about how Martha Corey, and Rebecca Nurse had been taken away for being accused of witchcraft. Mr. Nurse begged Rev hale to try to convince the deputy sheriff to change his mind, but Rev. Hale felt as though there could be a chance that they are witches.

  • Elizabeth Proctor used her familiar spirit to push a needle in my stomach!
  • It's a needle!
  • When Ezekial Cheever enters the house, the characters begin to fear that he is there in order to take a another person, and much to every ones fear, he announces that he has a warrant for the arrest of Elizabeth Proctor, thus making John Proctor extremely mad.
  • Ezekial Cheever asks Elizabeth Proctor if she has a poppet, in which she answers that she does not. Cheever then sees a poppet which had been given to her just a little earlier from Mary Warren. This causes John Proctor to question what the poppet has to do with anything.
  • Ezekial Cheever explains that while Abigail Williams was eating with Rev. Parris, she feel to the floor and screeched very loudly. Rev. Parris pulled a needle from her stomach and Abigail declared that Elizabeth Proctor had used her familiar spirit to push it in.
