  • He​ ​was​ ​born​ ​in​ ​Portsmouth,​ ​England in February​ ​7,​ ​1812
  • Charles​ ​Dickens​ ​loved​ ​to​ ​read​ ​and write​ ​and​ ​went​ ​to​ ​a​ ​good​ ​school.​ ​At the​ ​age​ ​of​ ​10​ ​the​ ​family​ ​moved​ ​to London​ ​and​ ​began​ ​to​ ​struggle financially​ ​.​ ​His​ ​father​ ​went​ ​to Debtor's​ ​Prison​ ​for​ ​owing​ ​money..​ ​So at​ ​the​ ​age​ ​of​ ​12​ ​he​ ​was​ ​sent​ ​to​ ​work in​ ​a​ ​factory.​ ​Instead​ ​of​ ​going​ ​to school,​ ​he​ ​worked​ ​at​ ​a​ ​​ ​shoe​ ​polish factory​ ​putting​ ​labels​ ​on​ ​pots​ ​of polish​ ​everyday​ ​and​ ​worked​ ​long hours.​ ​He​ ​kept​ ​this​ ​period​ ​of​ ​his​ ​life​ ​a secret​ ​for​ ​a​ ​long​ ​time​ ​because​ ​he was​ ​embarrassed.

  • His father went to Debtor's Prison for owing money.. So at the age of 12 he was sent to work in a factory. Instead of going to school, he worked at a shoe polish factory putting labels on pots of polish everyday and worked long hours. He kept this period of his life a secret for a long time because he was embarrassed.
  • Dickens​ ​never​ ​published​ ​a​ ​full account​ ​of​ ​his​ ​life,​ ​but​ ​we​ ​can​ ​see traces​ ​of​ ​his​ ​childhood​ ​in​ ​many​ ​of​ ​his works.​ ​In​ ​his​ ​novels​ ​children​ ​are​ ​sent to​ ​work​ ​in​ ​factories​ ​and​ ​the​ ​fathers were​ ​jailed.​ ​His​ ​boyhood​ ​experience help​ ​shape​ ​his​ ​interest​ ​in​ ​social reform.​
  • He wanted to help neglected children, hospitals, and other charities for the poor. His writings were very popular and powerful. Like in Christmas Carol how Scrooge Changed at the end of the story like with Tiny Tim when he brought the goose for there family.
  • he had 10 kids and two miscarriage and his wife was Catherine Hogarth they divorced after 20 years of marriage.
  • In his life he wrote 15 novels here are some of his most famous novels are Bleak House,Oliver Twist,David Copperfield and The Christmas Carol.
  • On June 9, 1870, Dickens had a stroke and, at age 58, died at Gad's Hill Place, his country home in Kent, England.
