We learned about many real cases that the Supreme Court has juged, and the reasons why each side won.
What did you learn in school today?
Okay! For example, James Ingraham got in trouble for being too rowdy, and as a punishment he was sent to the principal's office, where he was given 20 swats.
Oooh tell me about one of them please.
Well his bruises were so bad that he had to stay home for 10 days. He and his mother then decided to sue the prinicpal, and other school officials.
Oh no! What happened next?
The principal and other school officials won the case. The court ruled this way because they felt as if his punishment involved reasonable violence, which does not violate the Constitution.
Who won the case then?
No, I personally don't. I think that this was a cruel and unusual punishment for a fairly normal issue. I don't think that violence is ever a solution.
Do you agree with their decision?
Yeah, I feel the same way.
This makes me feel lucky to live in an environment where this kind of punishment is not allowed.
