Storyboard Text

  • "Yes, maybe. But you needn't concern yourself with that. Collect your things you are all dismissed early today"
  • In May 17, 1954 the day the Supreme Court ruled in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, that separate public schools for white and blacks were illegal. Melba was 12 years old she was at school when her teacher was called outside. When she came back she dismissed the students.
  • "Does that mean we have to go to school with white people?"
  • The students left school, but Melba decided to take a shortcut. She was afraid of Marissa an older girl who frightened them. When she was walking, she heard sounds but she couldn't see anything suddenly she saw a white man trying to hurt her.
  • "Pay attention to where you're walking. Walk in groups, don't walk alone."
  • The white man treated her bad, he hurt him. he was trying to rape her but Marissa got there and she started to fight with the guy. While that happen Melba ran to her house and then Marissa ran too.
  • When Melba got home Marissa explain everything to grandma India. So he sent her take a shower so the white man's evil could be gone.
