  • Ronald Adams says goodbye to his mom before he goes all the way across the country. His mom seems worried that something may happened to him.
  • Climax
  • Crossing Brooklyn Bridge that morning in the rain, I saw a man leaning against the cables. He seemed to be waiting for a lift. There were spots of fresh rain on his shoulders. He was carrying a cheap overnight bag in one hand.
  • Falling Action
  • Ronald saw him multiple times. He was scared. He stopped multiple times to see if anyone had seen a Hitchhiker but no one did.
  • Resolution
  • Ronald discovers his mom is in the hospital because of a nervous breakdown caused by the dead of her oldest son Ronald. He discvers he is dead.
  • And so, I am sitting here in this deserted auto camp in Gallup, New Mexico. I am trying to think. I am trying to get hold of myself. Otherwise, I shall go mad . . . Outside it is night—the vast, soulless night of New Mexico.
  • A million stars are in the sky. Ahead of me stretch a thousand miles of empty mesa, mountains, prairies—desert. Somewhere among them, he is waiting for me. Somewhere I shall know who he is, and who . . . I . . . am . . .
