This scene begins with two friends ordering lunch in the cafeteria at school.
About 230 million tons! A lot of it is food waste that can be composted instead if people just take time to put it in the right can.
Well, where does it go?
She notices her friend ordered a lot of food and is concerned whether or not he is wasting it.

Any leftover food you cam put in the compost. Also, you can put your paper plate in the recycle.
When she discovers that he typically throws away everything he doesn't finish eating, she tells him that is not the right thing to do.
So, how does composting help the environment?
By putting our food in the compost, we are repurposing our food and allowing it to be reused for soil. When we put it in the trash, we are sending it to the landfill where it reaches a dead end road and can't decompose.
Instead, she tells him how much trash the United States accumulates in a year and how a large portion of it is food waste, which can be avoided.
In this scene, she shows him what items belong in the recycle and compost, hoping he will learn to not throw everything away.
After teaching him what goes in each container, she tells him more about the benefits to composting and the downfalls to throwing away food waste to make sure he learns what is best for the environment.
