Once upon a time, there was a girl named Arachne. She loved to spin and weave more than anything in the world.
There was once a girl whose name was Arachne, and she could spin and weave extremely well. She often boasted that she was better than the gods.
This made Athena pretty mad. She challenged Arachne to a weave-off, and whoever loses would never be allowed to touch a spindle or loom ever again.
Zeus was the judge, and Athena was the winner. Arachne was devastated, she would never weave again. Athena took pity on her. But, she found a way for Aracne to weave without touching a spindle or loom.
Arachne was then transformed into a spider, so she could be happy again.
And it is said, that all spiders are children of Arachne, and if you see a spider, it may be Arachne herself, spinning and weaving happily forever.
