  • Harry Truman was the first American president to fight the Cold War. One was the policies he used, Truman Doctrine, was a plan to give money and military aid to countries threatened by communism
  • In 1947, Containment was a policy by the United States, implemented to help prevent the spread of communism in the US and worldwide.
  • Very nice to have met you Mr. Nikita. 
  • You too Mr. President.  We'll talk again soon.
  • In 1948, because of the Berlin blockade, the United States started delivering supplies, food, medicine, and water through the air for West Berlin.
  • In 1953, Soviet leader Josef Stalin died. His death gave the new American president, Dwight Eisenhower, a chance to deal with new Soviet leaders
  • In 1955, Cold War tensions eased a little. The new Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev, visited Dwight Eisenhower in the United States. The meeting was very friendly.
  • 1955, the Warsaw Pact was created, consisted of eight countries that vowed to protect each other if attacked.
