Rachel is a 7th grade soccer player that has scoliosis. Her world came crashing down when she was told she had to get a back brace. She also was just going into the new school year nervous. Of course, she has her two best friends supporting her along the way, not the mention the new boy, Tate. In the end, she is a true fighter.
The brace made things a thousand times harder. None of Rachel's clothes fit her. She had to get all new clothes. She could never play soccer the same way again, so she thought. She was teased, made fun of, and so much more. Rachel also had times where her boyfriend would ignore her, and her friends left her. Her dad could never come to the back appointments and her mom was pregnant with her soon to be little brother. As you can see, Rachel's had a lot of conflict.
Braced Alyson Gerber
Although Rachel was faced with very challenging problems, she found a positive to each challenge. When the time came to get the back brace off, she didn't want to. Her baby brother was born and he fell asleep only in her arms because of the brace. She also found a certain power or strength in soccer. I took from this, no matter how small or how huge the problem may be, you will get through it. Find the positive outcome of every situation (good or bad). Braced was a phenomenal novel written by Alyson Gerber.
