Mother and father I am ready to enter into manhood and find my spiritual helper. Tomorrow I will talk to the shaman(wise elder) so that he may help me prepare for the journey.
In the sweat lodge
wow I feel so refreshed
Three days later
It is important that I escaped the normal surroundings and distractions experienced in everyday life by choosing an area of natural beauty. It gives me time to reflect and appreciate the beauty of this world. The fasting has released all the toxins in my body. Oh great creator send down a spiritual helper to guide me through my journey from boy to man.
This is a story about a young boy named Waabizi coming of age and embarking on a vision quest. Waabizi has heard about this vision quest from his mother and father and has witnessed many of his tribe members go through it themselves. He is exited to partake in such a traditional and important event. He has been preparing himself for the past 2 years for this great spiritual milestone in his life. Waabizi expresses to his family that he is ready to start the journey.
Stop fighting over who's river it is and appreciate the beauty of it instead. we are all the Creator's children so share what he has left for us
Congratulations on your vision quest.! You saw a swan and to us that bird represents peacekeeping and harmony. Your role in this tribe to to keep the peace and ensure that everyone in the tribe gets along. Remind people that this is the Creator's Earth that we share.
After Waabizi consults the shaman he enters a sweat lodge and takes part in ceremonies and ritual such as smudging . The sweat lodge breaths its white breath on to Waabizi to purify his mind, body, spirit and heart. The smudging ritual cleanses and refreshes Waabizi to prepare for the vision quest. This is one part of the preparation, Waabizi must also fast and pray to the creator to send him a spiritual helper
After the sweat lodge and smudging ceremony Waabizi chose an isolated part of the woods where his dad and his dad's dad had chosen to embark on their vision quest. Waabizi had wondered around the forest all day seeking his vision and decided he wanted a nap. He laid down and felt himself drifting further and further away from his physical self.
Waabizi woke up from his nap in a new location. He saw from across the river bank two fish were arguing over who owns what part of the river. Then out of the blue, a white swan appears and makes peace. Waabizi is in awe of the swan and its peacekeeping abilities. This must be the vision that he's been praying for . He has heard that it can come in forms of a physical being, a dream, a vision and many other forms.
IT'S MINE !!!
After Waabizi woke up from his nap and returned to the main camp where his parents were waiting for him. Waabizi was unsure of what his vision meant so he asked the shaman for advice. This is another important step in a vision quest. After you receive your vision you must talk to your shamen so that they can clarify what it is your spiritual helper is trying to portray to you.
Waabizi is now seen as a man in his community. Because he had successfully completed his vision quest there was a ceremony and feast to celebrate it all. Waabizi is happy now that he has a spiritual helper by his side guiding him.
