Lizzie and Laura walk "among the brookside rushes". Lizzie tells Laura to "lie close" and "we must not look at the goblin men. We must not buy their fruits."
Laura goes to the goblin market and is tempted to buy their fruit. At first she persists that "I have no coin". Instead she gives them a lock of her hair. In return she gives in to temptation and eats their fruit.
Jeanie is a woman who gave in to her temptation. She ended up dying after she ate the goblin's fruit. This is a cautionary tale.
Laura becomes crazy!!! She won't do her chores. She "seemed knocking at death's door".
Lizzie goes to the goblin market to try and save her sister. The goblins try to force her eat the fruit and be tempted. She resists but is left covered in the fruit juices.
Laura sees that Lizzie is covered in the fruit juice from the goblins. Laura licks it off of her sister to get her 'fix'. Her sister is able to save her from her demise.
In the end, both women get married and live 'happily ever after'. They both warn their daughters about the dangers of the Goblin market
