We open on a wide shot of an old man sitting on a bed, he looks sad and lonely. As he looks over to space on the bed next to him the camera follows his eye movements, it is empty.
We follow him into the kitchen where he begins to make a cup of tea, he instinctively pulls two cups out of the cupboard, he falters, and then puts one back. At this point we see a close of his face, he looks worn and dejected.
We see his fingers rubbing the side of the cup , we can sense his immense sadness.
We see him turn on the radio, a Christmas announcement is playing. At this point the audience becomes aware he is alone on Christmas Day.
