  • The Seljuk Turks waged war against the Byzantine Empire in the battle of Manzikert. The Byzantine Emperor asked for support from Christians in Europe.
  • The Seljuk Turks
  • The Pope Urban II in 1095 managed to convince a crusade to occur. They marched to Jerusalem and murdered everyone regardless, Christians, Jews, Muslims. At the end, they all shared the territories by dividing them up between lords
  • The First Crusade
  • The Muslims were beginning to retrieve their lost land so Europe decided to retaliate by starting another crusade against the Muslims and were chased out making it a failure
  • The Second Crusade
  • The Third Crusade
  • Europe was furious when Jerusalem was taken over after the Muslims in Middle East banded together and they started the Third Crusade. The Seljuk Turks fought against the Europeans and got exponentially weaker so they signed a peace treaty
  • He led the Third Crusade and signed the peace treaty and made the Palestines surrender in 1191. He died at the age of 42 and was buried near where Queen Eleanor was buried
  • King Richard I of England
  • These crusades were made by people who were poor or organized military campaigns such as the Children's Crusade. In later crusades, nobody ever succeded in reclaiming Jerusalem. The Muslims got hold of the last city
