The nurse is providing patient teaching for a new prescription of Digoxin.
Hello Mrs.Williams, It looks like you'll be going home today with a prescription for Digoxin!
No further questions......yet. I'm listening!
Could you tell me why I was prescribed Digoxin? What is it used for?
Absoultely! Digoxin is a drug that affects the heart. It's used for heart failure and irregular hearbeats. It works by strengthening the force of the heartbeat.
Mrs.Wiliams I understand your concern. Digoxin adverse effects include cardiovascular, central nervous system, ocular, and gastrointestinal. However, let's discuss the signs and symptoms to be aware of when using this medication. Early detection of unusual symptoms, can help to eradicate any adverse effects in a timely fashion. Do you have any questions before we continue?
But what about the SIDE EFFECTS!!?? This is my heart we're talking about here! I only have one of those you know!
Ok awesome! You need to contact your prescriber immediately if you experience; heart palpitations, irregular heart rhytmns, fainting, dizziness, confusion, nausea, visual disturbances ( like blurred or yellow vision), or weight gain (more than 2ibs in 24 hours or 5 pounds in a week. If you have any family members that live with you, make them aware of these symptoms as well!
Wonderful! It's very important to take your medication as prescribed. This will also help prevent some of those symptoms. Do you have any further questions or concerns Mrs. Williams?
I do have a daughter that just moved back into town after my hospital scare. I'll be sure to tell her about my new medication and those symptoms you mentioned!
You're welcome Mrs.Williams!
Nope! Thank you so much for explaining that to me. I feel better now about taking my medication.
