Dad that creep attacked me when we were upstairs (Walls 213).
I'm sure he didn't hurt you that much, I knew that you could look after yourself.

Rex took out and counted $40, returning it to Jeannette. Jeannette felt like they had worked Robbie in a sleazy way, feeling disgusted with herself and her father. When Jeannette explained to her father what had happened with Robbie, she hoped to get an angered reaction out of him but instead he brushed it off, responding as if nothing had happened.
A woman from the jewellery store in War had stopped by to give Jeannette some beauty tips. While there, she exclaimed that Jeannette must have been earning loads in commission. Confused, Jeannette asked what she meant. The woman explained that she made 10% commission on every sale. The next day, Jeannette opened the watch case and grabbed a watch. Looking at the price, she decided it was equivalent to what she should have been paid in commission so she stole it.
Afraid that Mr. Becker would discover Jeannette had stolen the watch, she returned it to the case when Mr. Becker had left for lunch. Jeannette didn't want to give Mr. Becker the satisfaction of knowing that he was right, that she was in fact a thief. Jeannette hadn't broken a sweat when she stole the watch but she was nervous that someone would catch her putting it back.
