Storyboard Text

  • Symbolism- Black spot
  • I tell you it wasn't fair.
  • Imagery- Sight
  • Figurative Language- Alliteration
  • Whats going to happen????
  • Lets get this lottery started
  • i'm nervous because the paraphernalia for the lottery had been lost long ago
  • The black spot symbolizes death to the person who gets it. This represents a fear to the community because they don't know who is going to get the folded paper with the black dot.
  • Theme- Expect the Unexpected
  • "Clear and sunny with fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green." This is imagery because the reader can visualize a nice and beautiful summer day.
  • (My Choice) Figurative Language- Personification
  • Silence everyone...We are ready to start.
  • "The lottery had been long lost." This alliteration quote emphasizes the story by making the reader understand the importance of the story and whats to come.  The figurative language used is also to create suspense in the reader.
  • (Extra Credit) Juxtaposition
  • Oh little Dave you're so young I must tell you.
  • One main theme of the story is to Expect The Unexpected. This is a highly important theme because Tessie Hutchinson wasn't expecting to die on June 27th, but she did. This is a very important life lesson because anything can happen at anytime in your life.
  • "A sudden hush fell on the crowd." This personification quote is very important because it describes the surroundings of the town and adds suspense to the story. This quote is also very important because it means something big is about to happen at any moment.
  • Tessie represents an older woman of the Hutchinson family, while little Dave represents the youth and future of the Hutchinson family. This an example of juxtaposition because Tessie and little Dave are similar because they are family and blood, but they are very different because they represent two separate generations.
  • I can't wait until i'm older.
