  • The Fight for a National Bank
  • This money needs a place to go. I know, a bank!
  • The Southern states did not agree with Hamilton. Most of them had their debt payed off or to a minimum. They didn't want to help the other states. Question: Would you consider the Southern states selfish? Why or why not.
  • Tariffs and Taxes
  • We need more places that manufacture things.
  • Hamilton had to compromise with the Southern leaders. They agreed to the plan as long as the capital would be in/near Virginia. Question: Why do you think the Southerners wanted the capital in Virginia?
  • Trouble in the New Nation
  • Hamilton fought for a national bank. He had to fight with Jefferson and Madison. They both thought the bank would only benefit rich people. Question: Why do you think the national bank worked out?
  • The Whiskey Rebellion
  • Hamilton wanted protective tariffs. These would make the U.S. citizens not want to import goods anymore. Instead they would manufacture them. Question: Do you agree with Hamilton's logic? Why or why not.
  • Washington faced a lot of pressure from Britain and France to join their Revolution. He stood firm though. Question: How would you react in Washington's position?
  • The U.S. will remain neutral in this ordeal.
  • The government put a tax on selling and manufacturing of whiskey. This made people very upset. A rebellion formed but Washington ended it. Question: How do you think the people felt about Washington's decision to use force?
