Storyboard Text

  • I like to think of myself as ordinary, but I'm not. I was chosen by some big-shot superhero council to become the next Oxytocin.  To be honest, I'd never heard of Oxytocin before. I'm not a fan of the job description, but hey, a superhero's a superhero. Anyways. so here's my story.
  • I was walking home one night, and I had the strange feeling that someone was following me. Being the typical white girl that I am, I decided to take a shortcut through the old abandoned auto shop in the sketchy part of town. What could go wrong, right?
  • ~~~~~
  • He explained to me that I was chosen to be a new superhero by the council of superheroes in the city. He said Oxytocin, also known as the "love hormone", would be my name. I know all about oxytocin from school. It signals contractions of the uterus during labor, it signals lactation and moves milk to the breasts, and it helps with moving sperm in men.
  • Next, things get a little weird. I was approached by a man dressed in all black, and I was told that I needed to follow him. I thought it was best to do what he said, so I followed him. Now I know what you're thinking, "Why would you follow a strange man at night, it's dangerous?" Looking back on it I guess it wasn't the best move, but I was curious.
  • Anyways, that's my job now, keeping oxytocin levels where they should be. I still think people should have to figure things out by themselves, I've always had to. Well that's the story of how I came to be Oxytocin.
  • ~~~~~
  • The man, who said his name was Charlie, told me that oxytocin is produced in the hypothalamus, and it's secreted from the pituitary gland into the blood. Charlie told me that if not enough oxytocin is produced then people can experience depression and anxiety. If too much was produced then people can e oversensitive to others emotions.
