  • Okonkwo and his family are exiled for seven years, he feels depressed as he returns to his mother's village to carry out his sentence. 
  • Abame is set on fire and destroyed. 
  • Okonkwo wants to use violence as a way to drive out the church, but everyone has moved on from that thinking; he feels alone.
  • Uchendu gives a speech about how the villages are falling apart because they can't unite.
  • The clan completely changes because of the new religion. Enoch exposes the egwugwu to the people, killing an "ancestral spirit." 
  • The plot shifts towards the church. Okonkwo can't stop the church conversions and his family left him. When he realizes no one will stand and fight with him, he has nothing, so he kills himself.
